The new information and tourism office designed by OOIIO Arquitectura for the Cabildo de Lanzarote at the airport of Arrecife, Canary Islands, has been one of the 6 finalist works of the prestigious international architecture awards WAN, in the category of Small Buildings.
For the prize participated works built in the United States, Finland, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Japan, China and Spain, being selected as a finalist the OOIIO´s project “i-Rock”, name by which this interactive office is known that receives the tourists who come to the beautiful island of Lanzarote.
The design of the piece is inspired by the volcanic rocks that make up the attractive island landscape, especially the olivinas, which are volcanic crystals, black on the outside and with an intense green color inside.
OOIIO Architecture was inspired by these rocks to better integrate the new office in the vicinity of the airport arrivals hall, where large volcanic ornamental rocks were already found, so that the new piece plays to imitate and complete the other existing ones.
This OOIIO´s design was selected in an open competition promoted by the Canary Architects Association for the construction of the office. An idea of OOIIO that has turned out to be quite successful, since it not only served to the architecture studio of Madrid to win that architecture award but also last March of 2017 was awarded in Barcelona with the Emporia Silver Award to the best point of information and attention in the urban environment of Spain, apart from being finalists in the WAN International Architecture Award 2017.
The awards ceremony was held on February 28 at the Marriott Hotel in London with the assistance of more than 200 architects from all over the world.
A new recognition of the trajectory of OOIIO, which makes us look to the future with hope and optimism.
Thank you very much and keep working!
