Alejandro Aravena’s proposal for the Venice Biennale 2016, entitled “Reporting from the front,” invites each country to share experiences and moments of crisis that architecture has experienced in recent years. The proposal calls for reflection on the mistakes made and for sharing solutions that may help other countries to anticipate and avoid similar outcomes.

During the last period of economic growth in Spain, construction became the main engine of the economy. Today, reality shows us the presence built and the unfinished remains of the largest building company in history, leaving a plot of difficult fit and large volumes built partially and unbound.

Under the title “Unfinished” the exhibition of the Spanish Pavilion for the Venice Biennale 2016 aims to reflect on these unfinished architectures in order to discover virtues that can become design strategies. “Unfinished” aims to show creative speculation about the subversion of the past condition in a positive contemporary action.
