The project arises when we played to introduce the natural light in a not very big plot, making corner, in Mora, central Spain.
We decided to organize the housing program and client´s needs in the most efficient and simple possible way, always around natural light. For this, four courtyards were strategically studied, designed and placed.
In between those courtyards that work like cooling and ventilation distributors, and light wells, grow volumes that reach different heights depending on the function they host. Thus the highest will be the one that corresponds to the most “noble” area of living-dining room and the lowest to the garage.
The house is white, clean, with simple and clear lines, with window hollows strategically placed to enrich the composition of its vertical panels.
But the facades of the patios could not be shown like the rest of the house, they are the reason for the project, the heart of its architecture, that is why we also express its importance in the materials that cover them, playing with ceramic pieces, which emphasize and complete the composition of the whole house.
The basement floor that would usually be understood as a dark and closed place, suddenly becomes a very special place, the natural light falls through the four courtyards at once, becoming an open space, cool, protected and very bright.
For the house construction we are using different tiles games, following the ancient local tradition of using this material for decorating the houses interiors.
The patios cladding ceramics material will be special and very different to any other in the area.
